Altaussee, 2017

Vera Frenkel wishes to express her gratitude to art historian Karina Simbürger for suggesting the Altaussee salt mine as a venue for the installation; to Production Manager Norbert Schweizer who has helped to realize key iterations of this work in all its aspects from the very beginning, and who, with the help of master craftsman Martin Plackner and right hand man, Lauritz Neubacher, has recreated the light boxes for Altaussee. Profound thanks are due as well to Master Technician Matt Smith for video documentaion, for a remarkably helpful 3D model and for bringing the 1995 website into benign complicity with current technology; to friend and colleague, Doina Popescu, for her informed support and insight throughout; and of course to curator and art historian, Sigrid Schade, who first commissioned the work for the international exhibition Andere Körper (Offenes Kulturhaus, Linz, 1994), and together with Salzwelten Geschäftsführer Kurt Thomanek gave a wonderful introduction to the exhibition in the Springerwerk section of the Altaussee mine in September 2017.
